About Mythic Mandarin
Mythic Mandarin is an independent Chinese-learning project by Konstantin Aleksandrov, based in Bulgaria. It helps adult learners prepare for the new HSK with short stories graded by level, Chinese mythology and interactive tools.
What Mythic Mandarin is
Everything is organised by HSK level, from HSK 1 to HSK 6 and the advanced HSK 7–9 band, so you always know what fits you. Each story comes with pinyin, an English translation and questions that explain why every answer is right or wrong. Alongside the stories there are tools such as the Chinese stroke order dictionary and Hanzi Warrior, a learning game that turns daily vocabulary practice into a role-playing adventure.
Why it exists
A word met inside a good story is easier to remember than a word on a list. Chinese myths, legends and idioms give new words a memorable home, and a clear level structure gives every study session a next step.
Who builds Mythic Mandarin
Konstantin Aleksandrov, creator. He is interested in Chinese language and culture, and China is part of his personal journey: he plans to return there.
Konstantin does not claim professional Chinese-language qualifications. That is why the stories go to a native Chinese reviewer, and every story whose review is not finished is clearly marked as a preview version.
How the content is checked
Stories and practice material go through machine checks first: pinyin, vocabulary, level and the logic of every question. A native Chinese reviewer then checks the Chinese and confirms that it fits its level. Stories whose review is still in progress are marked “Preview version — Chinese review in progress”.
Hanzi Warrior is a study game. Its word lists are a study aid, not an official HSK list, and its Chinese has not yet been checked by our reviewer.
An independent project
Mythic Mandarin is not affiliated with Chinese Testing International (CTI) or any official HSK body, and it does not issue HSK certificates.
