Learn Chinese by playing

A vocabulary list asks you to read words. Hanzi Warrior asks you to use them, again and again, in different ways: you meet a word in a quest, recall it in a review, see it inside a short story and need it to win a battle. Each time you answer, the game tells you straight away whether you were right.

  • Daily quests

A few new words at a time, grouped by HSK level, so every session has a clear, small goal.

  • Reviews

Words you have learned come back after a while, so you practise recalling them instead of only recognising them.

  • Short stories

Chinese myths retold in simple Chinese with pinyin and English, so words appear in context.

  • Battles

Quick questions against mythical bosses test what you know and show you what to review next.

Progress you can see

The idea comes from role-playing games: quests to finish, battles to win and a character that visibly grows stronger. Practice earns experience points, your warrior levels up, and gold buys mythical gear. That visible progress is a reason to come back tomorrow, and regular short sessions are what make new words stick.

The habits behind it are simple and familiar to many learners: try to recall a word before you see the answer, meet it again after a few days, and get feedback at once. The game builds those habits into play instead of asking for extra discipline.

Built to work with Mythic Mandarin

Hanzi Warrior is practice, not a full course. It works best next to structured study with the rest of the site:

  1. Chinese dictionary

Look up words, meanings and pinyin, and learn to write each character with the Chinese stroke order tool.

  2. Graded Chinese stories

Meet vocabulary in context, with pinyin, a translation and questions that explain every answer.

  3. HSK levels

Follow a structured path from HSK 1 upwards and know what each level expects.

  4. Hanzi Warrior

Practise and reinforce what you have learned until the words come without effort.
