How to use the dictionary

  • Type Chinese characters in Simplified or Traditional form to find the word and the longer words that start with it.
  • Type pinyin with tone marks (jiā), tone numbers (jia1) or no tones at all (jia). Leave out the spaces between syllables: nihao.
  • Type an English word to find Chinese words with that meaning.

Definitions come from CC-CEDICT, an open Chinese-English dictionary. Each entry page shows the stroke order of every character, and you can practise writing it right there.
