Who is responsible for your data

Mythic Mandarin (mythicmandarin.com) is an independent Chinese-learning project run by Konstantin Aleksandrov in Bulgaria. He is the controller of the personal data described in this policy. Contact: hello@mythicmandarin.com.

In short

  • No advertising or analytics trackers: no Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel, no Hotjar.
  • What you send through the contact or All Access form is delivered to us by email. It is not saved in the website’s database.
  • The newsletter is optional. If you sign up, your email address and the page language go straight from your browser to our newsletter provider, MailerLite. They are not stored on this website.
  • Hanzi Warrior progress and your lesson settings are stored only in your own browser.
  • We do not sell personal data.

1. Information you send us

Contact form and All Access request form. You give your name, your email address and, if you want, a message. The website sends these by email to the Mythic Mandarin inbox, together with the name of the form you used. We use them to answer you and, for an All Access request, to arrange your access. Legal basis: taking steps at your request before a contract (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR) and our legitimate interest in answering messages (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

To stop spam and repeated submissions, the website keeps two short-lived technical records for each submission: a one-way coded value derived from the form token (deleted after about an hour) and one derived from your IP address (deleted after about a minute). Neither contains your IP address, your name or your message.

Newsletter (optional). If you sign up for the newsletter, the email address you enter and the language of the page you sign up on (en or bg) are sent directly from your browser to our newsletter provider, MailerLite. They are not stored in the website’s database. We use them to send you new Chinese stories, useful words, learning tips and relevant Mythic Mandarin updates. Double opt-in is used: MailerLite first sends you a confirmation email, and you are subscribed only after you confirm. To send the newsletter and give us basic campaign reports, MailerLite may process delivery and engagement information about the newsletter emails, including clicks on the links in them. Signing up adds no tracking cookies or scripts to this website. Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link in every newsletter email, or by writing to hello@mythicmandarin.com.

All Access members. If you get All Access, we create a website account for you (name, email address, username and password) and record which access you have and when it was granted. Legal basis: the contract with you (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).

Payments. No online payment provider is connected to the website. For an All Access purchase we send you the payment details by email. The bank or payment service you use processes your payment data under its own privacy policy. We keep the records of a purchase for as long as tax and accounting law requires.

We keep other emails for as long as we need them to handle your request and any follow-up.

2. Technical information needed to run the website

When you open a page, your browser sends technical information such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. Our hosting provider, Hostinger, processes this to deliver the website and protect it against attacks, and it can appear in the server’s security and access logs. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a secure, working website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

The website runs on WordPress with the Rank Math SEO plugin (page titles and search metadata) and LiteSpeed Cache (faster pages). They are not used to profile visitors. Fonts, scripts and images are served from mythicmandarin.com itself: no external font service and no third-party script is loaded.

3. Information stored in your browser

Some features save data in your browser’s local storage. Local storage is not a cookie: it stays on your device and is never sent to us.

  • hanziWarriorState: your Hanzi Warrior progress (level, words learned, gear, settings).
  • mm_prefs_v1 and mm_progress_v1: your lesson display settings and reading progress.
  • mm_consent_v1: your choice about optional services, only if such services are ever offered (none are at the moment).

You can delete this data at any time by clearing the site data for mythicmandarin.com in your browser. For cookies, see our Cookie Policy.

4. Services that are not active

The website currently uses no analytics, no advertising pixels, no online payment provider and no cloud sync for Hanzi Warrior. If one of them is added, this policy will be updated first, and any optional service will only start after you agree to it.

5. Who receives your data

Only the service providers needed to run the website, handle your messages and send the newsletter: our hosting provider (Hostinger), which sends the website’s emails; our email provider (Google Gmail), where messages are received; and, if you subscribe to the newsletter, our newsletter provider (MailerLite), which receives your email address and the page language and sends the newsletter. Where a provider processes data outside the European Economic Area, this happens under the safeguards that provider offers under the GDPR. We do not sell or rent personal data.

6. Your rights

You can ask for access to your personal data, correction, deletion, restriction of processing and data portability, and you can object to processing based on legitimate interests. Write to hello@mythicmandarin.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority: in Bulgaria, the Commission for Personal Data Protection (www.cpdp.bg), or the authority in the EU country where you live.

7. Children

Mythic Mandarin is made for adult learners. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

8. Changes to this policy

When the website starts processing data in a new way, this page is updated first and the date at the top changes.
